Job Duties:

  • Operates snowcat equipment for grooming mountain ski and snowboard trails and other areas of the mountain to produce quality snow surface for guests
  • grooming trails, including moving snow, flattening snow, powder-making, and compacting snow;
  • responsible for pre-trip inspections of grooming equipment prior to each shift
  • conducts regular maintenance checks on equipment, including checking fluid levels, bolts, belts, track tensions, etc
  • documents and report mechanical and safety issues, completes maintenance logs and checklists
  • performs light maintenance or repairs on equipment
  • assisting with snowmaking duties throughout the season
  • conducts regular maintenance checks on equipment, including checking water pipes, fluid levels and volume, temperature controls, energy consumption, and diesel fuel systems
  • documents and report mechanical and safety issues, completes maintenance logs and checklists
  • performs maintenance or repairs on equipment
  • monitor water resources and reservoirs at resort and total energy usage

Job Requirements:

  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to create and upkeep maintenance logs for various pieces of equipment, ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees
  • Ability (in English) to read and comprehend and write memorandum, correspondence, and reports
  • Punctual, able to report at scheduled start times
  • Work in a positive team environment
  • Able to work with minimum supervision

Physical Requirements: 

  • Sitting for long period of time, up to 90% or more of a normal 8 hour shift
  • Must be cable of occasionally balancing, climbing, reaching, squatting, bending, kneeling, stopping, and crawling.
  • Must be capable of lifting, pushing or pulling up to 75lbs
  • must be able to work graveyard shifts and late-night hours
  • must be able to work weekends and holidays, work effectively at high elevations, and function effectively in extreme cold weather conditions and in other inclement weather conditions
  • Specific vision abilities required
  • Ability (in English) to read and comprehend and write memorandum, correspondence, and reports

 Experience Level:

  • Ski area experience preferred, snow-cat operation, winch cat operation, cross country ski area grooming experience helpful, heavy equipment operation preferred, training experience preferred
  • Supervised a crew of 5 or more employees
  • Must be over 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent, additional job equivelent certifications a plus
  • Understanding of mechanical operations, diesel engines, hydraulics and hydrostatic drives is preferred
  • 5 years’ Ski industry experience a plus
  • Valid driver’s license with no restrictions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently be exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee may encounter extreme winter cold and blizzard conditions.
